Subject: Rain Garden at Pleasant Street Community Garden :
Comments: The Civic garden Center has a rain garden at the Pleasant Street Community garden that we would like to add to your data base. How should I submit information and photograhsBest wishes,Peter HuttingerNeighborhood Gardens CoordinatorCivic Garden CenterAbout the gardenThe Pleasant Street Community GardenModest in scale but not in purpose, the Pleasant Street Community Garden is a community-based and innovative ecological project offering a seasonal mix of annual vegetable gardening and perennial fruit crops, blended with sustainable practices. The garden is also a new urban garden model realized through collaborative partnerships with housing developers, city government and departments, the CGC and neighborhood gardeners. The Pleasant Street Community Garden is a renewal project of an older garden that had become inactive because of eroding neighborhood housing. The new garden is collaboration between neighborhood gardeners and developers of the City Homes Project. The development project includes partners from the public and private sectors including OTR Community Housing, 3CDC and developer Karen Blatt with additional support from the City of Cincinnati. The modest, vest-pocket style garden includes five raised garden beds, a cherry tree honoring the community work of Buddy Gray and gardener in the original garden and edible landscaping. To maximize food propagation in the garden, edible landscaping is an important aspect of creating a bountiful perennial harvest. The garden also incorporates a rain garden to help manage storm water from the new and renovated housing and also interfaces with MSDs Comers Ally pervious paving project.
